As thick as Thieves

I leaf through the scrapbook, dusty with age.
Every visit to my past, brings a new outlook into my life’s page.

Me and my  memories
Are thick as thieves.
Childhood files -
The fall from the tamarind tree
The  time we ran around naked and free
Rainy day screams at the leech on my feet
Wishing it could hear my fear in the peat
Catching crabs in the rice bunds
Collecting eggs in the chicken coup
Childhood, with its unlimited fun.

Me and my memories
Are thick as thieves.
College days files -
Us layering chalk dust on the teacher’s desk
Just so we could measure her seat’s breadth
That time in the bus when we stood statuesque
After purposely touching  the baldman’s head
Getting off at the wrong bus-stop
Just so we could see the movie star
Youth, Gone in such a flash.

I sit quietly reminiscing, What I was and what I am
Gratefully Understanding, It is enough
I am what I am.

P. S. this was written for a writing challenge prompt “as thick as thieves”
