We’ve come a full circle
It would seem
To the dawn of realization
That the Earth is Breathing Being
Living, not the way we know LIFE
Yet, Holding all LIFE.
Just for today
We revel in the awareness
That what happens to Her
We do unto ourselves
That to hurt her
Would be to hurt our-self
That to disrespect her
Would be to disrespect us.
That to take her for granted
Would mean our Death.
We drink of her Blood,
Yet we poison her rivers
We breathe through her lungs,
Yet we cut down her trees
We dig out her heart
We gouge her stomach
And then we complain -
“Oh Nature is so cruel, to change so”
When the sun scorches our skins
When her harvest makes us sick.
When we want to renew our lives
We call upon ourselves
The Scourge of Wars
Against our own kind
And then we sigh -
“Oh Nature is so cruel, for being so”
For perpetuating violence
through our genes.
In all our whining,
Sighing and Pining,
We forgot
That all we had to do
Was to take care Of her,
Right where we stood.
